Overview
Silver State Wire Rope and Rigging in Las Vegas sends technicians out to inspect cranes and hoists. Each inspection means recording the customer, the job, the crane itself, and the condition of every part.
I built the iPad app their technicians used to do that in the field. Technicians enter customer and job information and the crane's description, then go part by part marking deficiencies with notes. Signatures are captured, and inspection details sync.
I built it for Silver State from 2012 to 2014. It shipped as in-house enterprise builds rather than through the App Store.
What it does
Customer and job
- Customer and job information for each inspection
- Crane description: type, manufacturer, capacity, and serials
Part-by-part inspection
- Each part marked as deficient or not
- Notes on what's wrong
Sign-off and sync
- Signature capture
- Inspection details sync
- Inspections exported to Dropbox
How it's built
The original app
The Silver State app was written in Objective-C with Core Data, using Parse as the backend. It handled signature capture and exported inspections to Dropbox.
A new SwiftUI inspection app
In 2025 and 2026 I built REMT, a new SwiftUI inspection app built on The Defined CRM's backend. It has a configurable form-template builder, grade scales, crane types, client and crane pickers, and PDF report generation. It syncs to the CRM's API, and the CRM web app has a matching inspections page. It's about 7,400 lines of Swift.
